Seasons / Availability Serving Size Did you Know? Opah is typically harvested as an incidental catch by long-line boats fishing over seamounts in the Pacific. The opah migrates vertically up and down seamounts seasonally in search of food, but generally lives at depths between 300 and 1200 ft. The opah weighs between 50 and 210 lbs, does not travel in schools, and is commonly harvested alongside tunas and billfish. Its primary diet consists of squid and a variety of other small fish. Historically, the opah was regarded as good luck and was given away rather than sold. |
